On Saturday, October 12, 2013, Team CASA will take to the streets of Baltimore to compete in the Under ArmourŪ Baltimore Running Festival. Comprised of more than 150 CASA volunteers, staff and board members and other supporters who will participate in the full marathon, half marathon, team relay and 5K, Team CASA will raise public awareness and needed funds to support our efforts to serve every child who needs an advocate. For more information about Team CASA and how you can support the team or help out at the event, please email Kay@marylandcasa.org or call 410-828-6761.
Today in Maryland, more than 10,000 children are under the protection of the courts as a result of abuse and neglect. Most live in temporary foster homes and institutions, where they wait an average of three years before reaching safe, permanent homes.
CASAs, or Court Appointed Special Advocates, are trained volunteers, appointed by the court to speak up for the best interests of vulnerable children. Last year, nearly 1,000 CASA volunteers served more than 1,300 children in Maryland. But with 10,000 children living in foster care, 9 out of 10 of them have no advocate speaking up for their best interests.
By joining or supporting Team CASA, you can help close the gap by raising money to recruit more trained, committed advocates to ensure every child in Maryland their right to a safe, permanent home.
